The Question text: How are Curriculum Expectations and Teacher Look-Fors used as tools of and for assessment? Diane Stang, lead author sits at a table with the Math Place product. Diane Stang says: Within Math Place, what we do is we have at the beginning of the lesson possible learning goals, and we say possible learning goals because teachers need to adjust to the needs of their students. Those come from the curriculum. Then what we’ve done is we’ve made teacher look-fors, which are direct, observable behaviours that the kids will exhibit and this helps the teacher assess whether the students are reaching the learning goal. The beautiful thing about that is you can take those learning goals and those teacher look-fors and you can use those in your consolidation when you’re co-creating success criteria with your students after the learning has taken place. Therefore, it has given teachers a focus on what to look for throughout the lesson but also how to synthesize the lesson at the end. Math Place product shot appears. Scholastic Education logo appears.
